See, this kills me because it’s a pretty fucking fundamental driving force in Eliot Spencer’s character – “you can’t make that promise to more than one person.” And yet he ends the series doing exactly that.

The evil writerly part of my brain wants to know what happens when he can’t be there for Parker and Hardison both at the same moment. Whether it’s a heist gone wrong and he has to choose who to protect, or they’re in conflict with each other and he can’t avoid taking sides – what happens?

Hardison. (At least for the job gone wrong, and assuming nothing in the job fundamentally supercedes it by putting other’s lives in danger.) Parker would tell him to get Hardison out and he’d do it, because that’s what makes them…them.

And when Hardison demands why, Eliot tells him, “she said to say, there’s never a plan M.”

i feel personally attacked by this headcanon

I actually haven’t seen a post explaining this yet and after one of those last asks I figured I’d make one.

Endeavor says “冷の体質” which means “cold constitution/genetic makeup”. It specifically is referring to the body.

Perhaps ironically, Todoroki Rei’s first name, Rei, is 冷. This is probably why some translations say “Rei” rather than cold. Either way, it comes down to the same message:

Todoroki Touya, who has a fire quirk more powerful than Endeavor’s, has a body intended for a cold quirk . This makes him unable to properly use his quirk, thus failing in being Endeavor’s successor and confirms for the 500th time that he’s Dabi

Ralsei Meta: Born For This Purpose

Ralsei is really cute, but I think few people note Ralsei is also… really weird. Also his unwavering kindness really does at some points diverge into a jarring level of doormat-ish behaviour.

He is a character whose very introduction to the player is odd. He introduces himself to you and Susie as someone who was born to fulfill this purpose. He only exists to meet you.

Meanwhile, he also has many callbacks to Asriel/Flowey. Let’s throw aside the obvious anagram for now (Asriel=Ralsei). He is a prince of the world, who informs you that your soul is the ‘culmination of your being’.

image
image
image
image

Perhaps more notably, Ralsei has the same huge streak of dependence/codependence the original Asriel has. In fact, he was literally born to meet you and doesn’t seem to exist for any other purpose but that.

image
image

Unlike the other characters, and despite seeming to be around the same age, Ralsei has no parents. It appears that you’re the first people he’s met and formed any kind of positive relationship around. Even his interactions with Lancer seem shallow despite the fact he’s existed in this world longer. His existence is contingent on yours.

This both literally refers to the role of the tutorial character, and possibly everything else about Ralsei.

image

He’s never hugged anyone before (except the training dummy).

image
image

And he also seems okay with you hitting him.

He will lecture Susie on being a proper hero, and he definitely does want the characters to be nice to him, but he is mostly non resistant. Rather than sticking up for himself, he will bribe Susie to be nicer to him with the offer of baking a cake later. He’s pretty prepared to go along with most things Kris and Susie tell him after (even with some hesitation). If you hesitate too long at the point where Susie has joined the ‘Bad Guys’ and is being fanned, he even says ‘he’ll go grab a leaf and fan you’ until you want to be a good guy again. He is that dependent on you.

(Which is also true of Flowey, who Ralsei shares a lot of lines with. Flowey is, even at his most villainous, a truly codependent person with Chara – “I promise, I can be useful to you! I swear I won’t get in your way!” Let’s contrast that with Ralsei’s eagerness to please.)

image
image

Probably the biggest warning sign with Ralsei is that he believes the only way his purpose can have any worth is if he serves Lightners. It is the ONLY way true fulfillment can be reached in his eyes.

This sets both Kris high up on a pedestal, and it can be at first readily accepted as ‘game logic’ but it seems more indicative of an unhealthy way of being.

image

We get this tidbit from Seam, the shopkeep, the one other person who refers to Lightners in a way even similar.

image
image
image

Notably, this train of thought also makes Susie uncomfortable. As it probably should. Hearing your new friends can only be ‘fulfilled’ through your existence is an uncomfortable sentiment.

image

(Three Former Kings, pictured)

Interestingly, despite Ralsei claiming to be a prince, we see all the royalty of the world and none of them look even remotely related to Ralsei. So what is Ralsei a prince of? Why does he believe he has this title? What knowledge does Ralsei have of being created explicitly for the existence of others?

Lastly, I want to point out Ralsei’s similarity to one of the most popular mages of all, Vivi. Vivi’s plotline is concerned with being a ‘doll’, an artificially created person, and whose plotline revolves around purpose.

image

Seeing as Ralsei’s current purpose is attached to the Lighteners (which is truly unsustainable, as basing your existence around someone else is), with all these elements at play it seems Ralsei has 1. a kind of messed up view of himself in relation to others 2. that his purpose and agency may be examined in this story. 3. that Kris and Susie are currently high up on a pedestal for Ralsei.

Hi, sorry to be a bother, but can I ask, what are the types of pitches Mihashi can throw? There’s the ‘slow’ fastball, the ‘fast’ fastball… and then I think a curveball? and a shoot? And in recent manga chapters, something called the knuckleball? I’ve been trying to research what they actually look like, but the proper terms are eluding me…

oofuri-baka:

Vic here. Mihashi has slow ”fastball”, fast “fastball”, curveball, slider, shootball (shuuto), knuckle curve.

Knuckle curve

A standard curveball, thrown with one or more of the index or mean fingers bent.

Gives a better grip on the ball and allows for tighter spin and greater movement. In all other respects, this knuckle curve is identical to the standard curveball.

quirkify:

bakugou can’t even let someone hold him for five seconds before feeling like something disgusting crawled under his skin and lit itself on fire. the fact that all might reached for him by his head to pull him in for that hug was so reflective of so many of bakugo’s issues, as well as what it’ll take to tend to them in the future.

his mother’s primary target when she hits him is his head and then she pats his hair like nothing happened and he’s expected to just accept that. the smell from his quirk undoubtedly causes him some extremely painful migraines and his mind is so overactive that it probably physically hurts him sometimes.

when all might beat the absolute crap out of him during the final exam, he’d grabbed him by the face and smashed the back of his head into the ground.

his head is maybe not his self-described weak point but it absolutely causes him a lot of grief and so to have it cradled like that in a sincere and protective way is probably something he’s never experienced before. reaching for his head before his shoulders or his hand is a very audacious move and it reads as a big part of not just why bakugo rips away from him so fast but also, maybe, why he allowed himself to be touched in the first place.

this is the first time, i think, that he’s been assured that something isn’t his fault. this is the first time something like that is being directly juxtaposed with an action that has been directly utilized to hurt and confuse him, and it’s not being used for that anymore. this is a complete dismantlement of everything he’s probably come to expect by someone putting their hands on him like that and it just sticks out to me as a really important detail that i’m not sure many other people notice or consider the gravity of. it’s such a small gesture but it’s. everything, actually. everything he still can’t quite cope with, everything that’s been used to leave him this warped to begin with. i think some part of him really just wanted to know what that would feel like. what it’d be like if it were different from what he knows.

all might made a mistake with him and midoriya during the final exam and i never liked watching that fight. it was too much, he went too far, and watching them both absorb the attacks they did from their hero when he should have been focusing more on teaching them is really painful. this could almost be compared to the way that mitsuki hits her kid and then pats him in quick succession but that’s the thing — it can’t be. because all might is actually fucking sorry. all might is taking responsibility here for his contribution to the negligence that let bakugou believe that his retirement was his fault. he didn’t raise this kid with the back of his hand and then dare to pretend he can also be gentle.

he’s just sorry. and bakugou’s never had that before. for it to be shown this way is very subtly powerful and i’m not even totally sure horikoshi knows it. i just think about it a lot.

Doesn’t mihashi think shinooka is cute? Fear that they could be endgame. Tbh I can see mihashi asking out a girl as one of the mangaka’s ways of showing he’s growing more confident in himself. Imagine supportive but strangely quiet and withdrawn abe.

abeya:

there is no way for any of us to know endgame; but its been shown that shinooka is not really interested in mihashi at all (she canonically likes abe), so i doubt she will take that route (also like theyve barely interacted. and its kind of trite and boring lol)

ill put this under the cut so it doesnt clog anyone’s dash

see i feel like this is such a good example of their relationship tho and shows how complex and nuanced it is ;-;

like theres a lot of things going on in here but some of the main parts are

  • gon wanting to ignore killuas injuries and how that in a way is a show of his childish selfishness. i think this gets brought up the most w this part
  • but also how gon flat out just takes killuas word for it. killua wants to continue and so does gon and thats literally all the two need. killua would do the same if the situation is reversed!! they trust each other in that way
  • but also how much killua loves being relied on by gon and how he really really desperately wants gon to love and trust in him. gon readily supplies this, which isnt a negative thing, but it ends up causing a LOT of trouble in chimera ant arc OBVIOUSLY that killua is willing to go above and beyond for gon
  • also sidenote i think it also shows how killua purposely hides the extra work he does to not worry gon but that gon already sees and acknowledges it!!

cherub-chan:

Ever since the release of the My Hero Academia movie I’ve been hearing about all the kiribaku moments which while cool has literally been the only thing I’ve heard about it. Now that I’ve watched it for myself I got one question:

WHY THE FUCK DID NO ONE MENTION ALL MIGHT AND DAVID

Like were ya’ll so hung up on kiri and bakugo sharing a room that it just slipped you mind how gay David is for All Might???

Like these men were constantly thinking of eachother in very non-hetero ways. My man David the genius dilf was literally *spoiler* looking at pics of All Might from their time together for seemingly no reason before he even knows he’s coming to visit. And sure you could reason this away as concern for his friend but literally David is so dedicated and concerned for All Might that it’s tooth rottingly sweet. Even my brother in all his heteronormative greatness looked at me at the end of the film with this awkward grin and said “yeah that was hella gay”.

Like I genuinely wasn’t expecting this. When I heard snippets of David and All Might talk I thought “oh yeah just shippers doing their thing” boy was I wrong and happily so! It was wonderful seeing such a caring and deep relationship especially revolving around All Might lord knows that blonde babe needs it.

Hi, would you please mind elaborating on those verbal tics of Hawks’s?

khattikeri:

!! Sure! Mostly I just meant the suffixes and pronouns and “degree of politeness” and whatnot he uses that gets lost in translation.

Just saying, I’m not Japanese myself and I’m not a full-fledged expert in Japanese language and culture. I do think I generally know what I’m talking about, but if I made any mistakes in terms of interpretation please let me know!

image

Here’s Hawks mentioning who ranks how in terms of sheer popularity. He uses “ore” for himself (and he’s #2 in popularity). When referring to all other pro heroes, he uses the suffix ‘-san’.

We know Hawks is from Kyushu– though where in Kyushu specifically hasn’t been stated yet.

image

It’s pretty far from Tokyo, and irl the accent/suffixes and everything are REALLY different– though not to the degree of the Ryukyu Islands’ language differences from the rest of Japan, it can be really difficult for speakers of the standard Tokyo dialect to understand Kyushu dialects.
